Confirmed Case of Avian Influenza Recorded in Bolgatanga


 The Upper East Regional Directorate of Agriculture has confirmed case of Avian Influenza (H5) at Zaare Community in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.

The  Regional Rapid Response Team has moved swiftly to contain and prevent the spread of the disease by depopulating the affected farms while measures have been instituted to restrict the movement of poultry and products from affected farms.

 The Upper East Regional Veterinary Officer in Charge of Personnel, Data and Information, Robert Bayou, expressed disbelief over the reported cases of importation of birds from neighbouring countries, especially when the closure of the borders is still in force

 Poultry farmers in the Region have been entreated to intensify bio-security measures at their farms and report any case of suspected case of Avian Influenza to the nearest Veterinary Office.

Mr. Bayou allayed the fear of residents amid  confirmation of the Avian Influenza.

UER: NEDCO/VRA To Embark On Mass Disconnection Exercise

The Upper East Regional Office of the Northern Electricity Department of the Volta River Authority, VRA, says it will on Monday January 31, 2022 begin a mass disconnection exercise to enable them retrieve debts owed the company and to mobilize revenue to improve on its operations.

It also disclosed that defaulters have accumulated arrears to the tune of 68 million Ghana Cedis, with the highest defaulters being state institutions with arrears of 9 million Ghana Cedis as against postpaid billing of a 178,000 Ghana Cedis.

The Regional Billing and Revenue Protection  officer of NEDCO, Engineer William Kwame Asare, who made the pronouncement stated that staff from the Tamale office will be assisting his outfit to execute the intended disconnection exercise.

He, however, advised defaulting customers  to do the needful to avoid disconnection, adding that those with huge arrears can make  at least part payment of their outstanding and current debts whilst they take time to offset the remaining amount owed the company.

UER: REGSEC Imposes Ban on Motorbike Riding on Bawku

policewoman, Constable Regina Angenu of the Paga Police Station is reported dead after being shot by some unknown assailants at Bawku in the Upper East Region. 

The Police in a statement said the incident occurred Sunday, January 23 at about 5pm when the deceased officer paid a visit to one Constable Erasmus Enkson of the Bawku Division of the MTTU. 

Report has it that the two were attacked by the unknown assailants while on their way to Constable Enkson’s barracks. 

Constable Angenu was shot in the groin and died afterwards on receiving treatment at the Bawku Presbyterian Mission Hospital. 

Her body has since been deposited at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for preservation and autopsy. Meanwhile the Upper East Regional Security Council, REGSEC says it has followed with keen interest recent happenings and the volatile nature in the Bawku Township and has to that effect imposed an immediate ban on motorbike riding in the municipality and its environs.

 In a statement issued by the Office of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council and signed by the Regional Minister, Mr. Stephen Yakubu, the ban is applicable to both sexes but does not include motor tricycles. REGSEC upon this directive has directed the Bawku Municipal Security Council to to treat the order with all the urgency it deserves and enforce it to the latter.
