GES Boss Sacked

GES Boss, Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa.

The Office of the President has revoked the appointment of the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa.

The revocation of Prof. Opoku-Amankwa’s appointment was contained in a letter dated, Monday, October 17, 2022, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante on behalf of President Akufo Addo.

The letter which was in response to a request made by the Education Ministry stated that based on the exigencies that required the skills and expertise of Prof Opoku Amankwa as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, his services was no longer needed, hence his termination.

Having been appointed in April 2017, specific reference was however made for Prof. Opoku-Amankwa’s secondment in January 2021 from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST.

The contract of Prof Opoku Amankwa was extended again in June 2021 but this extension according to the letter was in “contravention of the Human Resource Policy Frame and Manual of the Public Services Commission as it purports to extend the secondment beyond the 3-year maximum limit.” Prof. Opoku-Amankwa has been instructed to return to his position at the KNUST. The letter further thanked Prof Opoku-Amankwa for his service to the nation and wished him well in his future endeavours”.
